The Ministry of Finance has described as misleading a publication by The New Statesman newspaper that about 4. 5 million barrels of oil have gone missing at the Jubilee Fields.
The newspaper publication of Wednesday, November 23, questioned the inconsistencies in the figures contained in the 2012 budget statement by the ministry of finance relating to the number of barrels of crude oil produced at the oil field.
The paper said it was confusing that the production figure of 22 million reported by Tullow on November 9 differs from the 17. 42 million barrels stated by the ministry in the 2012 budget statement.
Dr. Alhassan Iddrissu, the acting director of the real sector division of the ministry of finance, explained that the figures stated in the budget relate to the period between January to September and not November 2010 to November 8, 2011 as stated by Tullow.
The two periods are different, Dr. Addrissu noted. If you look at the caption you will see they put the missing in inverted marks which goes to show that they [The New Statesman] were not sure of what they were saying, he opined.
