Newmont To Review Interdiction Of Four Staff

The Management of Newmont Ghana Limited have agreed to review the interdiction of four workers.

The decision was taken at an emergency meeting called by Mr Haruna Iddrisu, Minister of Employment and Labour Relations with Newmont Ghana Ltd and General Secretary of Ghana Mine workers Union and Local Union of Newmont Mine Workers on Thursday.

The meeting was called following on-going industrial action taking place at Newmont Ahafo Mine.

A statement issued by Doris Yaa Yamoah, Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations and copied to Ghana News Agency, said other decisions reached were that Newmont workers would resume full-scale production with immediate effect and avoid go slow or any action to sabotage operation at Newmont Ahafo Mine.

It said both management and union workers of Newmont would ensure harmonious industrial relations as well as the safety of life and property.

It said both management and workers of Newmont are to abide strictly by the Labour Act, 2003 (Act 651) and avoid any illegalities; stating that “any violations of the Labour Act would attract the appropriate sanctions”.

“Both parties are to go back to the National Labour Commission to resolve the present impasse in the on-going review of salaries and conditions of service for Newmont workers,” the statement said.
