The Aflao Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), on Tuesday, intercepted a Nigerian-registered articulated truck carrying large quantities of un-cleared imported goods near Dabala, on the Accra Aflao Highway.

The items are 335 pieces of wax prints, 38 cartons of Hollandia yoghurt, 40 cartons of Hollandia milk, 100 cartons of maltina drinks, 32 cuts of polycotton materials, gallons of vegetable cooking oil, 15 pieces of mosquito nets and five crates of assorted drinks.

Razak Osman, 35, the Ghanaian driver, and his Beninois mate, Salam Nuhu, 18, have been placed in custody at Aflao to assist in investigations.

Mr. Confidence Nyadzi, the Aflao Sector Commander of the Division, told the media that at about 1600 hours on Tuesday, the truck with registration number, MUS-139 XQ, travelling from Nigeria, ostensibly with no cargo, was flagged to a halt by a team from the Sector’s Preventive Monitoring Unit (PMU) on routine patrols.

He said though they found the truck empty, the officers examining further, detected various false compartments under the driver’s seat, the floor and bottom of the truck, where the goods were concealed.

Mr. Nyadzi said the truck was driven to Aflao for thorough examination by other security agencies.

Mr. Nyadzi said the nature of the concealment, followed the format of the ammunitions intercepted in December last year.

He said the goods and the truck had been impounded.
