The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has asked Ghanaians not to pay when registering for the Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN).
“We have received reports of people collecting money. Nobody should fall prey to fraudsters who claim they work for the GRA. Those who want to register should go to our offices and it will be done free of charge,” Mr Gyimah-Asante said.
Mr Kwasi Gyimah-Asante, Commissioner, Domestic Tax Revenue Division was part of a strong team of commissioners who stormed the studios of Peacefm on Monday morning to educate Ghanaians on the need to honour their tax obligations, revenue generation and mobilisation, tax amnesty and measures by the GRA to clamp down on some businesses and individuals evading taxes in the country among others.
Other members of the delegation that were hosted by Kwami Sefa Kayi on the "Kokrokoo" show included Emmanuel Kofi Nti, Commissioner-General GRA, and Isaac Crenstil, Commissioner, Customs Division.
TIN Number
TIN is a unique number generated by GRA for persons including corporate entities.
The number is generated within 48 hours upon application accompanied with a valid national identification number such as Driver’s license, Passport, Voter’s ID.
TIN numbers are used to process passports, process land at the Lands Commission, transact business with the Registrar General’s Department, secure contracts from governments, secure payments from governments e.g. Controller and Accountant General Department, clear goods from any port or factory, file a case in court, and renew practicing license.
