Just two years after leading First Capital Plus Bank from a savings and loans into full-fledged bank, its Chief Executive Officer, John Kofi Mensah has resigned from the firm.

The decision was contained in a statement issued to the press by the board of directors .The bank did not state the reason but sources familiar with decision says ‘its personal’. First Capital Plus Bank, an indigenous savings and loans company, through the effort of Mr Kofi Mensah, was given approval by the Bank of Ghana (BoG) to carry out the business of a class one universal bank under the Banking Act two years ago.

Mr Kofi Mensah was instrumental in allying the bank with the Ghana premier league, a decision which has enhanced the image of the bank and also made it a household name in Ghana and Africa

John Kofi Mensah holds an MSc. degree in Banking and Finance from FINAFRICA in Milan, Italy and a BA degree in Economics and Statistics from the University of Ghana, Legon. He has over twenty-six years’ experience within the banking industry with special expertise in Treasury Management, Credit Management, Foreign Operations and nurturing new and distressed banks and financial institutions.

Before joining First Capital Plus, he was the Deputy Managing Director of uniBank Ghana Limited responsible for the day to day management of the bank’s operations. Prior to joining uniBank he worked at International Commercial Bank as the General Manager/Deputy CEO and supervised the organic growth of the bank. He has also worked with the erstwhile Bank for Housing and Construction and the Securities Discount Company Limited.

He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Business administration (DBA) Degree at the Swiss Management Centre University, Switzerland.

The Board of Directors has appointed Mr Fitzgerald Odonkor as the new Managing Director to replace Mr Kofi Mensah
