Cal Bank Supports Six Institutions

CAL Bank has donated a total of GH¢55,000 to six institutions in support of various projects they are all undertaking.

The beneficiary institutions include the Ghana Association of the Deaf; APSU 1991 Year Group; Komla Afeke Dumor Foundation; PRESEC 1990 Year Group; The Ghana Police Service’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID); and the National Police Training School.

Charles K. Amoah, Assistant General Manager in charge of Risk and Compliance at the Bank, stated that CAL Bank believes that if it makes money -- despite shareholders getting good returns on their investment and some of the profits used to improve on services -- a portion of that profit must be used to support social causes to improve the society in which the bank operates.

“There are some institutions that need support and some of them have been rewarded today. This money will be used to expand projects that seek to improve the lot of these institutions and society in general.”

“We always give back to society, because it is in line with our company’s policy to embark on a Corporate Social Responsibility project that improves on society,” he said in an interview after the presentations.

He added that CAL Bank is very active in pursuing its CSR agenda. The Bank has several orphanages it supports on a regular basis, and it also supports brilliant but needy students from the basic level right up to university.

“Currently, two of such students are working in the bank with us and these are some of the things that bring us joy and show that we are not just in the business of making money but having a positive impact on the society in which we operate,” he added.

The President of the APSU 1991 Year Group, Robert Orraca-Tetteh, in thanking the bank for the support said the group is currently undertaking refurbishment of the school's dining hall, and other old boys have supported in diverse ways -- but CAL Bank is the first corporate institution to help.

“We are changing the tables and other facilities in the dining hall and repainting it, and this money will go a long way to realise the dream.”

Office Manager of the Komla Dumor Foundation also thanked the Bank for the support and added that the donation will go a long way to help kick-start the Komla Dumor Centre for Broadcast Journalism and other activities, like a massive awareness campaign planned on cardiothoracic diseases.

Deborah Addison Campbell, Commanding Officer of the National Police Training School, said the institute has a clinic that has been renovated but is yet to be adequately furnished; and after making several attempts to get institutions to support the refurnishing, CAL Bank has responded.

“We plead that as we can now refurnish the clinic which serves thousands of people around the institute, we will get more help from CAL Bank to undertake more projects,” she added.
