A Deputy Minister of Energy, Dr Mohammed Amin Adam, has revealed that the government has embarked on an ambitious industrialisation programme.

He said the gas sector will define the terms by which this industrial development will thrive through the development of an integrated aluminium and steel industry, the development of an automobile hub and the development of the Ghana Petro-chemical hub.

He made this revelation during the launch of the maiden Ghana Gas Senior Staff Association Week celebration held at the premises of Ghana National Gas Company (GNGC).

According to the Deputy Minister, the gas sector in Ghana has undergone significant transformation over the past few years and has become a key player in the government’s socio-economic development agenda and this can be attributed to the tremendous effort of the staff of the Company, particularly the senior staff under the distinguished leadership of Dr. K.D Asante.

This is evident in the Company’s capacity to sustain the country’s power sector in the past few years, helping the country to curb the frequent power outages, popularly known as ‘dumsor’, which collapsed businesses and putting on hold industry expansion to push Ghana towards the accelerated development.

Ghana Gas Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Ben K.D Asante, on his part, said the administration with the support of the Senior Staff Association has made a prominent contribution to continuously training and building the capacity and components at all levels.

“At Ghana Gas, emphasis are placed on the in-house job training. Mentorship is very important,” he said, “to be able to sustain the intellectual capacity that we so pride ourselves on.”

According to the CEO, if this can be achieved, it is to sustain the industry which demands that there is high-level capacity.

He urged all workers to join forces and to strive to contribute their quota to expanding the gas infrastructure across the entire country.

The CEO took the opportunity to touch on some of the areas of expansion within the gas industry, citing the onshore pipeline that will begin from Takoradi to Tema, almost 300 kilometres to enhance both reliability and the capacity of the country’s system.

The CEO revealed that the Company is looking to increase the capacity of the existing processing plant to double its operations.

He, therefore, charged the management to work by deliverables and work extra by self-motivation.

“You have to drive yourself to achieve and deliver those works that have been apportioned by your leaders,” he advised.

“Ghana Gas is an organisation that believes in teamwork because a team is better than some of its parts.”

The CEO commended the staff association.

“Till date, I have and continue to enjoy the full support and collaboration of the Association in carrying out the vision for this Company, especially the indigenisation of our workforce,” he observed.

He challenged the association to go beyond achieving the welfare of the workers only.

“The Association should be interested in the welfare of the company since the staff association will not be if there is no company.”
