Millicom Ghana Limited operators of the Tigo mobile network, on Friday launched its 3.5G Internet broadband facility, promising to offer fastest Internet service wherever and whenever.

The new 3.5G Internet facility has the capacity to provide data services at a faster speed and ensure a new mobile experience for Tigo subscribers.

Nana Apratwum, Brand Communications Manager of Tigo, said the company in keeping with its promise to be consumer sensitive in the Ghanaian telecoms sector, had added this product to ensure quality services to the consumer.

He said Tigo views data services as a key element in the quest to perfect its products and raise it to the top of industry standards. "With the launch of 3.5G Internet, we are proud to say that a very strategic piece of our jigsaw is in place" he said.

Nana Apratwum added that Tigo was sending a strong signal to its subscribers that after 20 years in the telecom market it still focused on understanding the needs of customers and design products to improve their mobile experience.

"The future, for us, holds unlimited possibilities and we will step aside for the consumer to lead the way to define our direction, our investments and our choice of technology," he added. Ms Rosy Fynn, Consumer Manager of Tigo, said mobile services had gone beyond the basic needs of voice and SMS.

She said the demands of the average mobile user seemed to be gaining increased complexity, adding that the youthful segment in particular had growing demands on the services, which would push up the speed to innovate.

Ms Fynn said the launch of the 3.5G formed part of Tigo's social contribution to the national push to increase Internet penetration across all segments of society.

"For us at Tigo, the faster data speed of 3.5G means access to unlimited library resource for our students, quicker access to market information for our business," she said.

She said with the launch of the Mobile Number Portability, Tigo had positioned itself to become the preferred brand for subscribers looking for the highest quality, best customer service, the most relevant products in data, voice, entertainment, financial services and business solutions.
