The traditional authorities in the Keta Municipality have set up a business venture in the tourism sector for Spanish investors to construct hotels, resorts and other tourism-related businesses on the eastern coast of Ghana.

The venture would later be replicated throughout the Volta region.

In line with this, the Spanish Ambassador and the officials of the commercial office of the embassy are expected to celebrate this years Hogbetsotso festival celebrated by the chiefs and people of the Anlo Traditional area at Anloga, the traditional capital in the first week of November.

Last Wednesday, an emissary of the Awoamefia of Anlo Traditional Area, led by Togbi Samlafo III, the traditional operational official and Dumega Raymond Okudzeto, elder statesman and director of economic and developmental affairs of the area, met Jorge Avila, the commercial attach and his assistant to further put in place the necessary mechanism to enable Spanish investors start some projects by the beginning of next year.

According to Togbi Samlafo, the Awoamefia of Anlo, Togbi Sri III declared that apart from uniting the people of the traditional area, the Hogbetsotso festival would be used to highlight the economic potentials of the area and the whole of the Volta region.

He further disclosed that since Spain is well noted for its tourism industry, every effort would be made to bring the experts to the Volta region for joint partnership.

On his part, Dumega Okudzeto, the President of Volta Foundation, a developmental Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), revealed that Inter Nilo, a construction company from Spain which has been undertaking low cost housing projects in some parts of the African continent, had shown interest in the construction of houses in the Volta region and Ghana as a whole.

Mr. Okudzeto, the African partner to the company, pointed out that the company is happy about the planned construction of the harbour at Keta, the eastern road corridor, regional airport in Ho and the huge oil deposit both on shore and off and was ready to do business with people in the region.

The region indeed is ready for a mega economic take-off and we are ready for all investors, Mr. Kofi Asante, a tourism expert and coordinating official of the economic projects in the area stated.

The economic officials of the Spanish Embassy recently toured the Keta Municipal Area to identify the numerous tourist attractions to enable them coordinate with the Spanish investors and local counterparts.

The traditional authorities also decided to partner Spanish tourism authorities and other festival coordinators to enable them study the festivals of Spain.
