A sorrowful mood hangs heavily over the Kotoka International Airport (KIA), as signs and symbols of mourning could be seen all over the airport, in preparation of the burial of former President John Evans Atta Mills.
All the trees and street lights on the major roads leading to the airport have been draped in the mournful colors of black and red, with huge portraits of former President Mills.
Within the airport, these symbols of mourning could still be seen all over, with huge portraits of the former President and banners that read, "Death Becomes Meaningful When an Impact is Made on Earth," at key points of the airport.
Mournful songs could also be heard through the loudspeakers at both the arrival and departure lounges.
Former President Mills died on Tuesday, July 24th, 2012 at the age of 68, after falling ill. The state funeral for the former President, takes place in Accra from August 8th to August 10th, 2012.
Friday, August 10th, which is the burial date of the late President, shall be observed as a public holiday. About 40 Heads of State, and a large number of dignitaries, are expected in the country during the week through the airport to pay their last respects to former President Mills.
Already in the country to commemorate the occasion, is the Head Pastor of the Synagogue Church of all Nations, Temitope B. Joshua, who arrived from Nigeria this afternoon.
