MTN Assures Improved Network Delivery

The CEO of MTN Ghana, Mr Michael Ikpoki, together with the executive body of the organisation, have interacted with select editors and senior journalists in Accra to share highlights of MTN Ghana’s financial report for the year 2012 and to discuss other issues regarding MTN’s operations.

The forum brought together media persons from print, radio, television and online as well as the leadership of media associations such as Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Private Newspaper Publishers Association (PRINPAG), Ghana Association of Writers (GAW), Journalists for Business Advocacy (JBA) and the Network of Communications Reporters (NCR).

In a presentation to the media, the CEO of MTN Mr. Michael Ikpoki shared highlights on the company’s contribution to national development over the past year. He said “MTN made a total of GH?448,659,443 tax contribution in 2012.”

He also stated that the company is responsible for direct and indirect employment of 500,000 people thereby supporting local empowerment and job creation. This he said includes people who are directly employed by the organization and those employed through its dealers, sub dealers and suppliers, partners and other third parties within the value chain.

Highlighting MTN’s corporate social investments, he stated that, “We believe in giving back to the communities in which we operate and this is evident in our CSI projects across the country that is impacting the lives of hundreds of thousands of Ghanaians”.

Addressing the issue of network expansion and upgrades to deliver quality services to Ghanaians, Mr. Michael Ikpoki indicated that investments in network expansion projects will be intensified in 2013. He confirmed that a total of US$105 had been set aside for customer impacting capital investments which will result in boosting capacity for voice and data services and enhancing service quality across the country”, he said.

The forum was also used to reveal the new vision and mission statement of MTN Group. Other issues of interest to the public such as the effect of the current power outages on the business, transparency in MTN promotions and other customer related issues were also discussed.

The Presidents of the Ghana Association of Writers, PRINPAG and the GJA expressed their appreciation for the information shared with the media and encourage MTN to organize such fora on a regular basis to educate the public on their operations.
