The government on Tuesday commended the Board and Management members of the Ghana Oil Company Limited (GOIL) on the Company’s high performance in the bunkering business.

“We will therefore continue to support GOIL in providing marine gas oil and marine lubricants to ocean-going vessels,” Mr. Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, Minister for Energy and Petroleum, to officially commission GOIL’s two new service stations at Teshie and Nungua in Accra.

He spoke about GOIL’s proactive and business acumen in recent years, including the re-branding of the company and said: “the re-branding exercise you undertook two years ago is yielding positive results”.

Mr Buah said the Ministry had been monitoring the activities of GOIL and other oil marketing companies throughout the country and commended the management of GOIL for outstanding performance.

He urged Ghanaians to patronize GOIL products and services as a way of contributing to the growth of the national economy.

Mr.Buah, whose speech was read on his behalf by Mr. Kwame Siriboe, Deputy Director of Petroleum at the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum, called on GOIL to continue to expand to other localities.

Mr. Patrick Akpe Akorli, GOIL Managing Director said “it is our individual responsibility as Ghanaians, to help build the economy…there is therefore the need to support our local industries, and on the other hand our industries must also produce quality products”.

Mr. Akorli said the opening of GOIL service stations across the country creates employment for the youth, which is a step in its right direction.

Later in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mr Akorli revealed the Company will commission a new service station in the Ashanti Region on Thursday, and will move to the northern part of Ghana in February to commission similar projects.

Mr. Akorli said the new stations at Teshie and Nungua have GOIL Convenience shops which have been branded the’ GOIL GO-CAFÉ’.

GOIL, being the first indigenous oil marketing company and one of the forerunners in the state-owned enterprises sector and the petroleum industry has also entered the bitumen market and recently made its presence felt in the aviation oil market.

Nii Kpobi Tettey III, La Mantse, GOIL Board Members, Mr. Kwaku Agyemang- Duah, Industry Co-ordinator for the Association of Oil Marketing Companies, were among the dignitaries present at the ceremony.
