Dr EKwow-Spio Garbrah, the Minister of Trade and Industry, on Wednesday said the presence of Ebola in West Africa and International Monetary Fund (IMF) support for Ghana would not affect the country's investment drive.

He said those challenges, though scary, could not affect investors who are bent on doing business in Ghana.

"The Ebola scare and IMF support are challenges that account for only about 10 percent, but peace, political stability, good governance and rule of law in Ghana are some of the indicators investors are using to do business and I know we are qualified," he said.

Dr Spio-Garbrah was speaking to journalists on the sidelines of President John Dramani Mahama's presentation on "Ghana's economic transformation, progress and challenges in policy implementation," at the Chatham House.

Some members of the business community at the function had raised issues on the Ebola disease and Ghana's decision to seek support from the IMF.

The Minister said although they were relevant issues to be considered in business, the fact that Ghana had not recorded any Ebola case was enough proof to encourage the international business community to invest in the country.

On the IMF support to Ghana, he said it was reinforcing Ghana's bid to rid off all her economic challenges and carry out all the necessary transformations that could grow it into a full-fledged middle income state in the coming years.

Dr Spio-Garbrah said investors had confidence in Ghana as some even mentioned Ghana as a tourism destination although that was not paramount in the President's presentation at both business engagements.

He commended President Mahama for eloquently tackling the question and answer sessions adding, “The President knows the areas very well and didn't need enough support from we the ministers who were with him at the programmes.”
