First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Osei Owusu, has tasked the Committee on Communications to provide a detailed report on the financial standing of GBC so the house can be well informed on the Corporation.

He said this as the House approved the budget for the Ministry of Information for next year.

It came up that government allocation to GBC for next year had been reduced by 27 percent.

Mr. Osei Owusu was of the opinion that given the infrastructure that it has, GBC ought to be in a good standing despite its indebtedness but a detailed report on its financial books will better advice the House.

The Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu who made the application for an audit of GBC was at a loss why the corporation is indebted despite raking in revenue from adverts.

The Ranking Member on the committee on Communications, Alhajji A.B.A .Fuseini said if government was to be paying for coverage of national events, GBC would have been on a sound financial footing.

The Chairman of the Committee on Communications, Kennedy Agyepong challenged management of GBC to harness resources available to them to rake in more revenue.

The Ministry of Information got GH¢107.3 million for next year.

Other budgets approved were that for the Judiciary and Judicial Service which were jointly allocated GH¢375 million and the Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation which had GH¢183.6 million.
