The Sunyani Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) Task Force has declared a total shutdown of the town’s weekly market on Wednesdays.

The decision was taken with the consent of the Sunyani Traditional Council (STC) as the best line of action to ensure the spread of the COVID-19 was curtailed because the market, called Nana Bosoma market which is located about two kilometres away, south of the central business district is the busiest and most chocked area on Wednesdays in Sunyani.
The satellite markets however, would be operating.

This was confirmed by Superintendent Haruna Alhassan, the MUSEC’s COVID-19 Task Force Commander in an interview with the Ghana News Agency after a patrol to monitor compliance with health and safety measures and protocols on Thursday in Sunyani.

He said it was a necessary state of emergency because traders, most especially those from outside Sunyani were being recalcitrant in complying with the directives of the traditional authorities and the MUSEC Task Force.

Supt. Alhassan regretted that the traders were not adhering to the social/physical distancing and particularly wearing of the nose masks and stressed that the taskforce would ensure the Municipality was absolute silent forever on Wednesdays till the disease was over in the country.

He implored every individual to adhere to the directives and other protocols to avoid the wrath of the taskforce and emphasised that all shops without Veronica buckets, sanitizers and nose masks would be closed down by the Task Force.

Supt. Alhassan assured the taskforce would strengthen its patrols and do all things possible for the safety of the populace.
