The perennial tidal waves at Akplorwotokor and its environs in the Keta Municipality have destroyed a one-kilometer stretch of the major road linking ten communities to the rest of the country.
As a result, economic activities among more than 17,000 inhabitants have been affected due to the inability of vehicles to convey foodstuffs to the main Anyanui Market which serves as a major trading centre for the people living in the area.
According to the Daily Graphic (Saturday February 20, 2010) the road was destroyed by high tides at the coastline. From all indications, the destruction of the road is having a major deleterious effect on the lives of the people.
Indeed, apart from commercial activities, we at the Daily Searchlight wonder at the effect of the destruction of the roads to the social lives of the people affected. It is our belief that it is likely that it would affect their educational as well as health needs, among other shortcomings.
It is in this light that we at the Daily Searchlight call on central government, as a matter of urgency, to put in place immediate measures to ensure that the road is repaired in order to bring life back to normalcy for the affected people and communities.
Like all Ghanaians, the people of Akplorwotokor live up to their statutory responsibilities, and we must ensure that they are not ostracized by natural disasters!
