The worrying trend, of the display of violent tendencies with impunity emerging after the 2012 election by the New Patriotic Party is gradually gaining grounds, with some Men of God who are sympathetic to the course of the party bearing the badge of violence attacking innocent patriotic Ghanaians.
The latest NPP apologist to engage in this dastardly act is one Rev. Dr. Owusu Bempah, Founder and General Overseer of Glorious Word Power Ministries International who nearly turned the studios of Metro Television station last Saturday, into a boxing arena to throw punches at Ghanas world acclaimed satirist, Kwaku Sintim Misa or KSM.
Rev Dr. Owusu Bempah reportedly flared up whilst reacting to a solemn advice by KSM not to hide behind the smoke screens of religiosity to incite violence on public television, especially when the political tension in the country was still at its peak, leading to a fierce scuffle.
Narrating the incidence to The Al-Hajj newspaper, a source at Metro TV noted that KSM had finish an interview on Metro TVs weekend entertainment program Morning Ride hosted by Anita Owusu when he heard Rev. Bempah who had just replaced him on the show making comments that could aggravate the tension in the country.
Those of us on duty that day heard Rev Bempah make statements to the effect that in the spiritual world, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, defeated presidential candidate of the New Patriotic party and was the legitimate winner of the December 7, 2012 election, but the chairman of the Electoral Commission, Dr Afari Gyan skewed the results to favor president Mahama.
According to the source the Reverend Minister accused the chairman of the EC of conniving with evil powers to rob Nana Akufo-Addo and the NPP of victory and due to this the country is on the verge of experiencing bloodbath in the coming days.
Upon hearing this, KSM who was about leaving decided to wait in the studio and after Rev. Bempah had finished with the interview with Anita, approached him politely to draw his attention to the possible implications of his pronouncement. KSM mentioned to the pastor that If indeed, God had ordained Nana to become President of Ghana, He (KSM) believes no man could have curtailed that the source noted
The source further stated that the ace comedians peaceful advice was misconstrued by Rev Bempah who lashed bitter verbal attacks on KSMs personality and described him as character who has a long standing history of being used by evil forces to attack pastors.
KSM replied by sayingI have a long standing history of attacking 419 pastors like you, Rev Bempah the source pointed out.
This according our source nearly degenerated into fisticuffs, but for the swift intervention by some young pastors accompanying Rev. Bempah and Metro TV technicians, an Obinim-like scene would have been recorded.
When The Al-Hajj newspaper contacted KSM, he confirmed the incidence but was tight-lipped on the details. You know it is one of such things and I believe the management of Metro TV would have wish not to have allowed their station to be used as a tool by supposed Men of God to incite people to violence.
Rev. Dr. Owusu Bempah, earlier this year warned of an imminent civil war if Dr. Kwadwo Afari-Gyan allowed himself to be used by politicians in the just ended elections. According to him, the nation could be plunged into chaos if Dr. Afari-Gyan allowed himself to be manipulated by politicians for their selfish interest.
He therefore advised the electoral commissioner to stand firm and conduct the elections in a free, fair and transparent manner, adding, He must not allow himself to be influenced by money or anything.
Rev. Bempah made this known in an interview with the press at his office in Accra.
He said If the election will go well and be peaceful, it all depends on the EC, on how it will conduct the elections. Since 1992, the EC has discharged its duties creditably so the commissioner should not do anything that will bring the institutions name to disrepute.
Rev. Bempah urged Dr. Afari-Gyan to announce the winner of the polls himself in order for peace to prevail in the country.
He said politicians must conduct their campaigns devoid of insults and tribalism which had a possibility of plunging the nation into civil war.
