Hohoe Projects � My Candid Observation

Like every Ghanaian, our wish is to get our fair share of the national cake. For many, development that brings direct impact is most appreciated. I am a resident of Kpermi in Hohoe, which seems to becoming a melting pot of political dissonance. And this was sparked after President Mahama’s 2016 State of the Nation Address which mentioned some finished road projects in the Hohoe Township.

I have read an old copy of the November 9, 2004 edition of the Daily Graphic in which Ransford Tetteh posted a story captioned: ‘DISCERNING GHANAIANS RECOGNIZE OUR GOOD WORKS;”. In this report, the then National Chairman of the NPP, Haruna Esseku, was quoted as saying that the NPP deserved another term in office because it had delivered on its first term in office.  Haruna Esseku noted that, “unlike those who suffer from political alzheimer and myopia and, therefore, want to indulge in the self-deluging claim that our achievements over the four years are flukes, the discerning people of Ghana who are witnesses of the solid and tangible achievements are acknowledging our good work.”

So I ask this simple question, why can’t the indigenes of Hohoe publicly and honestly acknowledge projects being undertaken to improve their living standards just like NPP’s  Haruna Esseku declared in 2004?

In fact the NDC/ NPP media war over who constructed Hohoe Township roads pricked my conscience and out of curiosity decided to verify what has changed and more importantly what has been completed since 2009.

From the records I gathered the following;

·         Construction of 1 dormitory Block with bungalow attached located at Gbi Kledjo which was commenced on 6th November, 2008 and is 100% complete.

·         Construction of 1, 3-Unit classroom block, office and store located at Fodome Mele which was commenced on 2nd April, 2008 and is 100% complete.

·         Construction of 3-Unit Classroom Block, Office and Store located at Alavanyo Agoxoe which was commenced on 3rd February, 2010 and is 100% complete.   

·         Rehabilitation of 1 Dormitory Girls Block for HEPSS located at Hohoe which was commenced on 13th October, 2010 and is 100% complete.

·         Rehabilitation of 2-Bedroom Bungalow with Boys Quarters for HEPSS located at Hohoe which was commenced on 13th October, 2010 and is 100% completed.

·         Construction of 1,   6 Unit classroom block with ancillary facilities located at Gbledi which was commenced on 30th September, 2010 and is 100% complete.

·         Construction of 1, 6Unit classroom block with ancillary facilities located at Alavanyo Abenase which was commenced on 30th September, 2010 and is 100% complete.     

·         Construction of 1, 6 unit classroom block with ancillary facilities located at Hohoe experimental which was commenced on 30th September, 2010 and is 100% complete.

·         Construction of 6 unit classroom block, office, store, library and staff common room located at Akpafu Odomi which was commenced on 16th August, 2010 and is 100% completed.

·         Construction of 2 unit classroom block , office, store and dining /utility area with 5 seater KVIP toilet located at Akpafu Mpeasem which was commenced on 16th August, 2010 and is 100%  complete

·         Construction of 2 storey 8 flats (Staff House) for Gbi Special School for the Deaf located at Hohoe which was commenced on 16th August, 2010 and is 100% complete

·         Construction of Administration Block for the Special School for the intellectually disabled located at Gbi-Kledjo which was commenced on 16/08/2010

·         Construction of 2 Storey 8 Flats (Staff House) for Gbi Kledjo special School the intellectually disabled located at Gbi Kledjo which was commenced on 16th August, 2010 and is 100% complete

·         Construction of kitchen/dining hall complex for Special School for the Intellectually disabled located at Gbi-Kledjo

·         Construction and completion of 6 Unit classroom block, office, store, staff common room, library and 8 seater w/c toilet located at Gbi kpeme which was commenced in 2008 and is 100% complete.

·         Construction of 1, 6 unit classroom including KG1&2 with ancillary facilities located at likpe Mate which was commenced in May 2011 and is 100% complete.

·         Construction of 1 girls’ dormitory block for Hohoe Evangelical Presbyterian Senior High School (HEPSS) located at Hohoe which was commenced in June 2011 and is 100% complete.

·         Construction of perimeter fence wall with entrance canopy and security post including re-shaping of access road with U drains at Gbi-Special School for the intellectually disabled located at Gbi-Kledjo which was commenced on 28 th October, 2011 and is 100% complete.

·         Construction of 1, 2 unit Library/ICT Center with furniture and supply of 20  desktop computers for Gbi-Central RC Boys JHs located at Hohoe which was commenced on 25th November, 2012 and is 100% complete.

·         Construction of 1, 3 unit classroom block, office, store and staff common room with 4 seater KVIP toilet and 2 Unit urinal block located at Lolobi Kumasi which was commenced on 30th April, 2014 and is 100% complete.

·         Construction of 2,  2 Unit classroom block for early childhood development Centre with 2 Unit toilet and urinal at Hohoe experimental M/A and Musama Primary school located at Hohoe which was commenced on 15th May, 2014 and is 100% complete.

·         Construction of 1, 6 unit classroom block with ancillary facilities for Alavanyo Agome E.P Primary located at Alavanyo Agome which was commenced on 12th February, 2013 and is 100% complete.

As Mr. Haruna Esseku stated in Ransford Tetteh’s story, the NPP’s “achievements in terms of positively changing Ghana for the better has been unprecedented in our nation’s history.”  So, Haruna Esseku teaches us that it is not out of place of our leaders to point out projects they have undertaken and ask the electorates to maintain them in power.  This is indeed an eye-opener!

Certainly then, the recipients of development projects also reserve the right to give their own assessment of the impact of such projects on their communities and lives in general.

I have searched for many of these initiatives and I can vouch my appreciation. I wish all across the country will not be passive observers but check, just for the records and make informed judgments. Akpe looooooo!!!!!
