President John Atta Mills has endorsed the decision of the Electoral Commission to proceed with Tuesdays election re-run at six (6) polling stations in the Akwatia constituency.
A statement from the Ministry of Information said President Mills has also assured the Commission of all necessary logistics and security arrangements to ensure a peaceful and successful election re-run.
Speaking after a meeting with the Vice President, and the Ministers for Defence and the Interior, President Mills overruled a recommendation of the Eastern Regional Security Council that the election re-run be postponed, and directed that the election comes off as scheduled.
He further directed the heads of the various security agencies to provide maximum security for Tuesdays polls.
A curfew was imposed on the town of Akwatia and its environs on Sunday following political clashes that resulted in various degrees of injury to many people.

HON. MRS. ZITA S. OKAIKOI
