Statement: National Zango Caucus Of The NDC On Newly Trained Ghanaian Doctors From Cuba

The attention of the National Zango Caucus of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has been drawn to an attempt by the Director General of the Ghana Health Service (Dr Anthony Nsiah-Asare ) to downgrade the otherwise novelty of the Mills/ Mahama gov't, in selecting females from the Zango communities to benefit from a scholarship by the Cuban government to train young Ghanians in medicine.

In the view of the Zango Caucus of the NDC, this unfortunate attempt by the said Director General is nothing but an attempt to elevate the trivials at the expense of more important issues.

For us in the Zango communities, we appreciate the efforts of the Mills/Mahama gov't and believe strongly that, the former first and second gentlemen of the state deserve commendation instead of condemnation.

It is sine-quanum to note that, this singular action of training female doctors by the Mills/Mahama administration will go a long way to eradicate the reluctance of women in general and in particular, moslem women, from seeking medical attention in the the area of reproductive health, as a result of cultural and religious believes which make it difficult for women to open up themselves for male medical doctors to examine them for general gynaecological conditions. Not to mention how the women may also benefit from the hundreds of chip compound, clinics, district and regional hospitals built by the Mahama administration.

Other auxiliary benefit that comes with this unique social intervention by the Mills/Mahama administration is the elevation of the families of these new doctors to a higher pedestal and compete amongst equals in nation building whiles breaking the cycle of poverty that is usually associated with the Zango communities largely due to lack of western education and skills.

It is worth mentioning that, irrespective of the current status of the newly trained doctors, every general practitioner has some general knowledge in the area of Gynaecology, Paediatric, medicine therapeutic etc. and this can go a long way to meet the purpose for which the female doctors were sent to cuba.

Is it not a fact that, the underlisted names were part of the team of doctors sent to cuba?

Is that statement by Dr Anthony Nsiah-Asare seeking to contest the fact that the above listed names are not Moslems from our Zango's, and as such, will meet the intended purpose for which John Mahama reminded the Moslem gathering on the Eid day?

Is it also not a fact that even if the said female doctors can only undertake general examination and diagnosis of female patients subject to the directives of a male specialist, it will go a long way to curb the existing problem that the programme seeks to cure?

It is sickening when public servant who are by law refrained from active politics begin to be more political than the politicians, all in an attempt to save the sinking government of their political party that has lost its goodwill as a result of massive corruption and nepotism .

It is our hope that these muslim doctors would be posted to zango communities to fulfil the objective for which they were sent to cuba.
