A circuit court in Techiman on Thursday sentenced a charcoal burner to 15 years imprisonment for defilement.
James Banah, 26, pleaded guilty to the charge of defiling a seven-year-old girl at Dinkra, a farming community in the Nkoranza North District.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Edmond Badu Agyemang told the court presided over by Mr Justice Daniel Kwaku Obeng that the convict was a friend of the victim’s father.
He said on February 14, the convict visited the victim’s father at Dinkra and asked the victim to accompany him to his house to collect a cigarette for her father and forcibly defiled her on their way to his house.
The victim, who was bleeding profusely, went home and informed her father about her ordeal.
A report was made to the police and the convict was arrested.
