Government has clarified the circumstances under which Health Minister; Hon. Yieleh Chireh, took a ten-day leave of absence.
News about Hon. Yieleh Chireh going on leave at a time public sector doctors across the country were striking raised questions about the commitment of the minister to ensuring that the ensuing crisis under his sector were solved.
However, a statement from the Ministry of Information and signed by its sector minister Hon. John Tia Akologu disclosed that President John Atta Mills granted the health minister his request for leave on October 11, 2011 purely on medical grounds.
Mr. Akologu said he hopes that this clarity will bring to an end the wild speculations the health minister�s leave has generated.
The statement noted that that it is the view of the president that the strength and functionality of institutions must be enhanced and guaranteed at all times irrespective of those who are privileged to head these institutions at any point in time seeing that none of us is indispensable.
