As William Shakespeare rightly puts it, all the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players: they have their exits and their entrances; and one man in his time plays many parts, his acts being seven ages.
The late Komla Dumor has finished playing his. He ended up as one who brought honour and dignity to the entire nation. He is gone though it would be hard to come to terms with, but that is the exact truth. Even in his death, the late Komla continues to teach us a lesson.
The lesson is no longer based on unearthing facts about high profile cases; it is centered on your health.
We are told his death is related to a heart condition and Professor Frimpong Boateng has seized the opportunity to enlighten the entire nation about how well we can to some extent, handle heart failure problems. He is considered as the first black Cardiothoracic Surgeon from Sub-Saharan Africa to perform a heart transplant.
Speaking to Adakabre Frimpong Manso on Neat FM's "Me Man Nti", programme, he urged all to learn about CPR.
CPR stands for Cardiopulmonary resuscitation and it is a procedure used during an emergency situation to manually preserve brain function until further measures to restore spontaneous blood circulation and breathing in a person who is under cardiac arrest.
CPR involves chest compressions at least 5 cm (2 in) deep and at a rate of at least 100 per minute to pump blood through the heart and thus the body. The rescuer may provide breaths by either exhaling into the subject's mouth or nose or a device that pushes air into the subject's lungs.
Professor Frimpong Boateng first started by explaining the difference between cardiac arrest and a heart attack. According to him, a cardiac arrest occurs when internal obstacles prevent blood from flowing properly to the heart.
On the other hand, a heart attack occurs when the heart doesnt receive blood because ones coronary arteries are blocked, he added.
He detailed his point on CPR by stating that if learnt properly, one could use that experience as first aid to assist people who encounter unstable heart conditions.
When thunder strikes and affects a person, or one should encounter a wind pipe problem, the CPR could be used to resuscitate that individual, he said.
Komla Dumors death saddens us all and we must all endeavor to learn about CPR. For we never know when this first aid procedure would assist us save a brother or sisters life.
