The Sekondi -Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly has recorded four cholera deaths out of the 51 confirmed cases reported across the various health facilities in the Metropolis.

Ms. Joyce Bagina, Metropolitan Health Director, told the Third Ordinary Meeting of the Fourth Session of the Sixth assembly that so far 86 suspected cases were recorded from Ahenkofi, Sekondi, Kwesimintsim Zongo and new Takoradi.

She said New Takoradi continued to record lots of cases despite the public education and awareness creation by health promotion officers and community health nurses.

In a related development, the Waste Management Department of the Assembly has directed that all public places of convenience be cleared and disinfected.

Mr. John Goker-Mier, Head of Waste Management said evacuation of liquid and solid waste was currently ongoing in some areas of the Metropolis.

On other matters, Mr. Anthony Cudjoe, Metropolitan Chief Executive, expressed happiness that the assembly performed creditably in the FOAT assessment exercise.

He mentioned two priority areas of investment as the upgrading of infrastructure facilities within the Kokompe Light Industrial Enclave and the Construction of Integrated Social Centre at Effiakuma.

He said more than 14 million Ghana cedis had been allotted to these projects adding, “The two projects have been awarded and projects sites handed over to contractors.”

On the street naming exercise, he said the exercise was far advanced and the Assembly had awarded the second phase of the exercise to FISAME Development and Associates to procure and install street Name Signage and Property numbers for the STMA.

The MCE said that the Assembly had improved in the area of revenue mobilization.

The assembly had collected GHC3, 881, 502.93 representing 87 per cent of its target, he said.

Captain RTD Cudjoe acknowledged the not too good road network within the metropolis and said the government was asphalting 18.55 kilometers of arterial roads.

The Kansawarorado Road is also being developed into dual lanes, he said.
