The Sekondi/Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly has recorded 39 cholera cases in the first two months of the year.
Mrs. Joyce Bagina, the Metro Health Director, said although the disease in the past occurred in the dry season it was becoming endemic.
Last year, the metro recorded 427 reported cases with five deaths.
Speaking at the annual performance review meeting, she called for improved personal and environmental hygiene as a sure way of controlling the spread of the disease.
Dr. Fred Otuoboa, the Medical Superintendent of the Takoradi Hospital, said most of the cholera patients were people who had eaten rice and beans (wakye) and raw vegetables and called on the public to be cautious.
Captain Anthony Cudjoe, the Metropolitan Chief Executive, called on the Directorate to engage the public during such performance reviews in order to get real information from them for better performance.
