Obstetrician-gynaecologist at the 37 Military Hospital, Dr Caroline Ladzakpo has disclosed that there is a high possibility that pregnant women who crave for food may have low iron levels.
The Gynaecologist speaking in an interview with Afia Amankwaah Tamakloe on Adom FM’s “Nyinsen Ne Awo)”, stated that, during the early stages of pregnancy, women are likely to experience certain bitterness in their mouth which forces them to crave for food.
She said;
“Some women crave for every strange food and if a pregnant woman is excessively craving for foods, she would normally not eat, it could be a sign that her iron level is down and hence would need to go to the hospital for help.”
She, therefore, advised women who experience excessive vomiting to consult a doctor or should try drinking ORS incase the vomiting becomes too much.
