A Human Rights Court in Accra has ordered the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) and the Attorney General to produce the head of the Commercial Crimes Unit of the Police CID, DSP Gifty Mawuenyegah, in court after spending more than a week in detention.
She is expected to be arraigned before court by Wednesday per the court ruling.
DSP Mawuenyegah has been in BNI cells since December 29, 2011 for her alleged involvement in the cocaine-turned-baking soda scandal that rocked the nation in the last quarter of last year.
The counsel for the accused, Oliver K. A Dzeble, filed a writ last Friday to force the Attorney General and the Director of the Bureau of National Investigations to produce their client in court and to explain why she is still being held unlawfully.
