A notorious armed robber on the wanted list of the security agencies for quite sometime now, has been shot dead by the Police.

Rabiu alias Robber died in a shoot-out with the police on Friday evening.

The Greater Accra Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Corporal Bright Danso confirmed the incident to peacefmonline.com a short while ago.

Recounting how the suspect met his death, Corporal Danso said the police were tipped-off at around 7pm about an intended robbery operation. The target of the robbery was the residence of a wealthy Nigerian at Ogbojo near Madina.

According to him, a few minutes after the police team took up positions at vantage areas around the intended target, the robbers, three in number, stormed the place on motorbikes.

Realizing that the place was surrounded by cops, the robbers opened fire on the police. In the ensuing shoot-out, two of the robbers, including the notorious Rabiu died on the spot from gun-shot wounds whiles the third member of the group managed to escape and is currently on the run.

10 rounds of ammunition, a pistol and three mobile phones were found on the two armed robbers.

Rabiu, according to the police, was part of a group of armed robbers who attacked and killed a policeman in Tema.

He was also said to have participated in the recent ECOBANK robbery at the Accra Shopping Mall and another robbery incident on a Forex Bureau at Haatso.

Meanwhile, the police has assured the public that they will be spurred on to discharge their mandate of providing internal security without fear.
