Police in Ahafo Ano say the pit that claimed two lives on Saturday has been cordoned off to prevent any further occurrences.
Two people died in Subriso, in the Ahafo Ano District in the Ashanti Region when an illegal mining pit caved in.
Earlier reports had put the number of miners trapped at eight; but police investigations said only two people were trapped.
Ahafo Ano Divisional Police Commander Chief Inspector, Kweku Buah told Citi News the leadership of the galamsey miners had helped identify the unsafe areas to prevent further casualties.
The leadership of the galamsey group have banned people from going to that very area.
According to Mr Kweku Buah, the people who died had been recognized and efforts were underway to contact their families.
