A massive fire has engulfed sections of the Kantamanto Market in Accra, eyewitnesses have reported.
The reports indicated that efforts by officials of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) to put out the fire were being hampered by their inability to gain entrance into the market due to the poor architectural design of the place and the placement of illegal structures on some streets of the market.
The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, was reportedly seen at the scene in the company of some police officers trying to maintain law and order.
The Kantamanto fire is said to have broken out at about 5am on Sunday. It's not clear how it started.
