The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has arrested and handed over to the police three building inspectors at the Okaikoi North Sub metro and the owner of the six story building that collapsed at Nii Boi town in Accra.
The building inspectors were found liable for acts of negligence.
According to the AMA the inspectors instead of preventing the construction of the storey building supervised it.
The three inspectors have also been interdicted for six months without pay.
The owner of the building whose name has been given as S.K Omari has also been arrested for not having a permit and a land title to the land.
The AMAs investigations also revealed that Mr. Omari was liable for not obtaining development and building permits. According to the AMA he failed to stop construction works when he was served with three stop work notices.
The Accra Metropolitan Assembly said it has ordered the immediate evacuation and shutdown of the Grandview Hotel that is on the same compound where the 6-storey building collapsed.
"The building will be subjected to a complete structural assessment to verify that it is safe for further use," the AMA added.
