Vice President, Paa Kwesi Amissah Arthur, acting as President of the Republic on Tuesday by Executive Instrument declared Monday, October 6 as a statutory public holiday.
In a statement issued in Accra by Mr Mark Owen Woyongo, Minister of the Interior and copied to Ghana News Agency said the public holiday is to mark Eid-ul-Adha, which falls on October 4, a Saturday.
The statement said the Vice President has accordingly declared Monday October 6 as statutory public holiday.
Eid al-Adha meaning "Festival of the sacrifice" is an Islamic festival to commemorate the willingness of Ibrahim also known as Abraham to follow Allah's command to sacrifice his son Ishmael.
Muslims around the world observe the event.
