The Eastern regional police command has impounded a mercedes benz container vehicle with registration number AW 138-15 loaded with 64 sacks of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
According to Chief Supt. Edward Faakye-Kumi, regional crime officer, the suspected Indian hemp was concealed under 129 bags of poultry feed.
Police report says on February 20 at around 5:30 am the Akuse police patrol upon a tip off arrested 33-year-old Nicholas Asare, driver of the mercedes benz container who was conveying the substance along the Kpong-Accra road to outwit the police check point.
The 64 bags of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp contains 4,589 slabs.
Briefing the media at the regional headquarters in Koforidua, the regional crime officer, Chief Supt. Edward Faakye-Kumi said the driver would be processed for court as investigations continue.
