President Trump has vowed to fight a court decision that put a temporary halt on his executive order barring US entry to travellers from seven Muslim-majority countries.
A federal judge in Seattle last night imposed a nationwide, temporary block on the president’s travel ban, lifting restrictions with immediate effect. Airlines have reportedly been told that they can carry banned travellers while the legal case continues, although confusion remains over the reach of the order.
The White House said that it would file an emergency motion to stop the judge’s order taking effect.
Sean Spicer, the White House press secretary, at first called the federal court ruling “outrageous”, but the word was removed in a second statement released moments later.
