The Inspector General of Police, David Asante Apeatu has described as barbaric the murder of Captain Maxwell Mahama.
Captain Mahama was lynched on suspicion that he was an armed robber, after a group of residents from whom he asked for directions during a Monday dawn jogging session spotted a pistol on him.
He was the commander of a military detachment to Denkyira Obuasi in the Central Region for a mission sanctioned by the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).
At a press conference on Friday, the IGP described the way in which Captain Mahama was murdered as ‘barbaric’, adding ‘it is regrettable that innocent people have lost their lives due to mob action…’
According to him, the police are putting measures in place to ensure that such cases don’t occur again.
