The Eastern Regional Police Command has arrested one Jephet Binney, 24, who allegedly posed as a soldier to defraud the public.
According to the police, the suspect collected huge amounts of money from people under the pretext of enlisting them into the military.
The suspect, who is currently in police custody assisting in investigations, was reportedly arrested by one of his victims called Emelia Amoah, 34, a restaurant manager, with the help of four other military men.
DSP Ebenezer Tetteh, the Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), who disclosed this to DAILY GUIDE, said the complainant told the police that Binney, an electrician at Nungua, Accra, together with three others wearing military uniforms, convinced her to pay the money in order to join the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).
According to the Police spokesperson, on 10th September, 2018, the suspect collected an amount of GH¢25,000 from her under the pretext of enlisting her into the GAF.
The complainant later had information that the whole transaction was fraudulent but failed to retrieve her money.
Some soldiers later helped the complainant to arrest Binney from his hideout.
