The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has directed Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the North-East, Savannah, Upper East and Upper West regions to close all markets in their jurisdiction on Wednesday, April 1, 2020, for a disinfection exercise.
There are 57 markets in North-East, 60 in Savannah, 105 in Upper East and 103 markets in Upper West.
A statement signed by the sector Minister, Hajia Alima Mahama, and copied to the Ghana News Agency, said this was to enhance conditions of hygiene in the markets.
It requested the MMDAs to collaborate with market queens and leaders to coordinate and ensure compliance with the directive while urging the public to cooperate.
The markets would be opened on Thursday, April 2, for business.
