A member of the communication team of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Bernard Anim Piesie has condemned the murder of a 90-Year-Old woman accused to be witch.
He called on the Police to expand the net of culpability to include those who abetted the heinous crime.
According to him, the Police should hunt for those who stood to watch and did nothing while the late Madam Akua Denteh was being murdered.
Speaking on UTV's Adekye Nsroma, Anim Piesie expressed shock to see women championing the lynching of a fellow woman.
“Spirituality and its beliefs have been in the country for a long time, the same scenario going on in our churches. All these are happening because Africans normally seek for quick solutions in resolving problems. We believe every problem is attached with a spiritual force,” he stated.
“People are taking undue advantage to steal from the vulnerable. There should be enough education on the matter which is so much on the rise. There should be a yardstick to clamp down such barbaric acts”, he added.
Meanwhile, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Mr. James Oppong-Boanuh has dispatched homicide experts from the National Police headquarters to the Savannah Region where the incident happened, to hunt down the murderers of the 90-old woman.
She was beaten to death at Kafaba near Salaga in the East Gonja District for allegedly being a witch.
The suspects are believed to have fled the town but their names have been given as one Sanjo, who is said to have hosted Hajia Filina, a Priestess who declared the deceased a witch.
Others are the Priestess Hajia Filina, a teacher called Aliu, Bumaye, Ashley and Manafo.
The IGP has announced a two thousand Ghana Cedis (GhC2,000) reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspects.
