Parliament has passed the bill on the promotion of human sexual rights and family values bill also known as the anti-LGBTQ bill.
The bill proscribes LGBT activities and criminalizes its promotion, advocacy and funding.
Persons caught in the act would be subjected to a 6 months to 3 year jail term with promoters and sponsors of the act bearing a 3 to 5 year jail term.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is yet to receive the bill for his final approval.
The infamous bill, known as the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill, was a Private Members Bill led by Ningo-Prampram MP, Sam Nartey George.
The controversial passage follows years of the bill being in parliament, and having gone through several stages, amidst continuous backlash and attempts by anti-proponents of the bill to have it quashed, or at most, have portions of the bill revised.
However, some 16 civil society groups have vowed to mount pressure on President Akufo-Addo to reject the bill which is yet to be presented to him.
