Chairman of the Church of Pentecost (COP), Apostle Dr. Opoku Onyinah, has advised politicians to be mindful of their utterances and the media to be circumspect in the kind of information they disseminate especially as the December elections draws nearer.
Paying a courtesy call on the management of Peace FM and Despite Group of companies, Apostle Onyinah called on Ghanaians in general, and the media in particular, to devote their daily lives to issues that centre on tolerance, peace and the cordial sharing of ideas.
According to him, there is no need to spew violence, pointing out that the country has come a very long way in entrenching democracy. Having gained a reputable image throughout the world, he said, there is no need to destroy what has been tirelessly built just for the purposes of an election.
Politicians should be careful of what they put out to the public. They should know that this is the only country we have and so there is the need to protect it; especially considering how great an image we have. Media houses should also ensure that if the politician say anything offensive, they do not broadcast it, Apostle Onyinah said.
Apostle Onyinah, who is currently the President of Ghana Pentecostal & Charismatic Council (GPCC), commended PeaceFM and Okay FM for spearheading discipline on the airwaves. He said as the first radio station to broadcast in the local language, Peace FM has distinguished itself among the rest.
On his part the Chief Executive Officer of the Despite Group of companies, Osei Kwami Despite, expressed appreciation to the Church for their prayers and support. He attributes the heights attained by the station and the successes of his businesses to the Grace of God.
