A Hohoe Circuit Court has sentenced four commercial drivers to a fine of 100 Ghana cedis each for carrying passengers over the required number on their vehicles.
Divine Seddoh, Humphery Agbekudzi, Abdul Latif and Shahu Lalli were arrested in the Hohoe Municipality and would serve a five-month jail term in default. They all pleaded guilty to the charge.
Meanwhile, a bench warrant has been issued for the arrest of Godwin Abotsi, an Opel Astra Driver, with registration number GW 6784 Z, charged with the same offence.
Prosecuting, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Benjamin Dadzie, told the court presided over by Mr Edward Apenkwa that the offenders were arrested by personnel of the Motor Transport and Traffic Unit.
He said the drivers carried six instead of five passengers on their Taxies while the mini-bus drivers carried 17 instead of 15 passengers at various points in the municipality.
