The Akyem Oda Police in the Eastern Region have arrested a 35-year-old ex-convict for suspected armed robbery and drug trafficking.
The man, Kofi Adu, alias Anointing, recently returned from the Nsawam Medium Security Prison where he had served a seven-year prison term for robbery.
According to the Oda Divisional Police Commander, Deputy Superintendant of Police (DSP) James Sarfo-Peprah, in March, this year, Adu and his gang, armed with deadly weapons, attacked the shop of a private businessman in Oda and stole 23 vehicle batteries and sent them to Accra for sale.
He said the theft was reported to the Oda Police, who managed to search Adus bedroom at Oda where guns, crowbars, machetes, masks, as well as a quantity of cocaine and Indian hemp, were found.
DSP SarfoPeprah said Adu was put before court, which granted him bail, but he jumped bail and went into hiding.
He said the Kasoa Police managed to arrest him at his hideout at Kasoa last Monday and handed him over to the Oda Police for prosecution.
