Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, Minister of Energy and Petroleum, has inaugurated a rural electrification project at Kalbeon, a rural community in the Bolgatanga Municipality of the Upper East Region.
He said President John Dramani Mahama is very passionate to ensure that the remotest areas of the country get access to electricity by 2016.
Mr Buah noted that apart from South Africa, Ghana is leading the way to ensure that every remote parts of the country get electricity to empower the people economically.
He advised Ghanaians to help conserve energy by putting off their electrical appliances when they are not in use.
The Chief of Kalbeon, Naba Apasenaba Ayusene said the project would help improve upon the living standards of the people.
The Consultant, Mr Robert Adjebeng assured the Minister that the project which started last year would be completed by the close of the year.
Mr Buah told journalists that about 500 communities in the region would be provided with electricity power and entreated the contractor to expedite action to complete the project on time.
Alhaji Limuna Mohammed-Muniru, Regional Minister said the rural electrification project would create more jobs in the region.
Thengashep Ghana Limited is the contractor for the project.
