The first Ghanaian Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana Prof Alexander Adum Kwapong has died.
Mr Kwapong died on Saturday, August 9, at age 87.
A celebrated academic, Prof Kwapong was also the chairman of the Council of State under the erstwhile Kufuor administration.
Born on March 8, 1927, Prof Kwapong attended the Achimota and proceeded to Cambridge for his tertiary education.
He then came to the University of Ghana in 1953 where he rose from the ranks of a lecturer and later became the Vice Chancellor in 1966 and served for eleven years in that position.
He was the first ever Ghanaian to have acted in that position.
He was chairman of the Council of State from 2001-2005. Friends and close associates are already commiserating with family of Prof Kwapong.
