The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) of the Trades Union Congress has called on transport operators to promote road safety during the Christmas and New Year festivities.
A statement issued in Accra and signed by Mr Stephen Okudzeto, General Secretary, called on drivers to abstain from alcohol and ensure that they did not bring misery to homes during the yuletide.
It said it had been proven that about 70 per cent of road accidents occurred through human-related errors, therefore, with great caution, the accident rate on the road could be minimised, if not completely eliminated.
The statement reminded motorists that: A good driver is the one, who goes on his trip with a well maintained vehicle and returns home safely to meet his family.
Therefore, one should maintain his vehicle, observe all road traffic signs and drive with extra care and save lives and property.
