Four persons engaged in illegal small-scale mining known as “galamsey” have died and two others sustained various injuries after a pit collapsed on them in the Prestea Huni-Valley District of the Western Region.
The accident occurred on the night of Tuesday 28 June 2016.
The deceased were Paa Boadu, 36, from Abura Dunkwa in the Central Region; Doman Ballana, 37 from Sankana near Wa in the Upper West Region; as well as Sulley and Nkoalla. Their bodies have been deposited at the Prestea Government Hospital mortuary.
The injured include Ayoni Olani and Emmanuel Yeboah. They were admitted at the Effia-Nkwanta government hospital and are responding to medical treatment.
