Founder of Action Chapel International, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan Williams, says winning the fight against corruption is conditioned on a total change in Ghanaian attitudes.
In a sermon to his congregation Sunday, the baritoned charismatic leader said people who scream about fighting corruption in society should be careful what they wish for.
"We need to be very careful as a society. Sometimes when we talk about corruption, corruption, corruption - if we want to correct corruption, we have to jail everybody", he said.
The charismatic leader said corruption festers in Ghana because "we have wrong belief systems"
"It is the way society is made up", he argued.
His comments formed part of a sermon on the topic 'Don't fight the process". He explained that people need to prepare to go through the mill so they can handle success when it happens.
"Life is a process, if you miss the process, if you miss preparation, you will become a danger to society".
Using Ghana's politics to illustrate his point, the Archbishop observed that meritocracy has been thrown to the dogs.
He said to occupy political office, a person needs to "be loud, learn the skill of arguing on radio and you have to learn how to insult people effectively".
If a person masters these skills, his party rewards him with an appointment "whether you have been through process or not, whether after school you have established a business, build a house ,earn salary, pay taxes, done something with your life or not".
Archbishop Duncan-Williams said people who have not saved a $1,000 before are signing contracts worth $10m and so get intoxicated by power and pecks. "You have security. You have a garden boy. You have two armed men, one in the morning, one in the evening. You have a diplomatic passport, you are travelling nations"
The Archbishop who presides over a church membership of over 100,000 said the exposure to an unsustainable lifestyle, forces the politician to "do everything to maintain that lifestyle"
He said the politician who tries to revert to a modest lifestyle runs the risk of being poisoned by his wife who has become used to a good life. The Archbishop said this is also true for ministers of the gospel who want to drive a fancy car after a few years in ministry.
"There are people who want to drive what I am driving. Do you know how many years it took me to drive a Land Cruiser?"
"It took me 40 years! And you are anointed so you also want to drive a Land Cruiser which it took me 40 years to drive", he said.
The charismatic leader also said parents are competing with others to send their children to schools abroad just to make a statement. This attachment to affluence has also affected the order in families, he said.
The Action Chapel founder said younger members in the family who are richer disrespect the elders and encourage others to disrespect them just because they have money.

it seems all those commenting here did not really understand message preached by the Arch Bishop,,please kindly read well to understand before you comment
Are we to fight corruption or Not.If in fighting corruption we would have to jail "everybody" so be it.This is a conflicting message.Well maybe he benefits from the corruption all around us otherwise why this convoluted message?Driving a Land Cruiser is not an achievement. It does not affect the lives of people.Bishop please raise the bar for achievement above material things.
I never heard this man speak against stealing by gov't officials. Has he just arrived in Ghana or something just woke him up to this thievry or something no longer working in his favour??? Is there a particular reason why the church is not affecting the morals of Africans? Is it true that some pastors in Africa, in the name of doing the work of God, has amassed more wealth off their church members and are even richer than some banks??? As3m s3b3!!!
Reporting aside, the pulpit is being misused to mentally enslave Ghanaians What you need is a vision and a process and clear convincing path to execution of a project to get a contract and not how much you have in a bank. Maybe you need 1000 dollarsnin your account to begin to pay tithes
What are you talking about? People like Okudzato Ablakwah didn't even have what it takes to rent a single room before being appointed as minister without any experience or whatever. he was flying First Class weekly for Lectures in UK within 6 months. how much was his salary then? The truth is one and Ghanaians hate it.
Cease fire. Do we hear preachings in our pulpits today about good morals apart from prosperity? God have mercy on us all.
well said but Politicians are not the only corrupt people in society. there is a mess at the civil service too. at least the public accounts committee has revealed a lot of rot at the civil service over the years.
Inaccurate reportage. Why cant Ghanaian Journalists report ad verbatim and always make basic errors by twisting their reports? Wax in their ears perhaps or sheer unscrupoulousness?
I beg to differ but i dont agree on this one. i dont need to save $1000 before God lift me to higher place. unless he means something else but didnt put it right or probably was misquoted.
I would like to use this same platform to bring to the fore some inaccuracies in this publication 1) The Title of the message yesterday was THE FEAR OF GOD and not Don't Fight the process which was the Topic for about 4 weeks ago. 2) He did not say younger members of the family disrespect the elders. He said the younger in the family who may be blessed should not allow family members to break tradition of leadership in the family. Rather, they should use their resources to support the elderly. An example he gave about his family members trying all they could to bypass his elder sister for him to take certain decisions at the time of the death of their mother. 3) He did not say the politician (ie every politician), he severally stated that some who are exposed to unsustainable lifestyle will do everything maintain and same for some ministers of the gospel. 4) The last but least is the impression that I am having from this write-up suggesting that people who do not have a $1000 are now signing $10 million dollars contract. He used the $1000 savings and $10 million an analogy. As much as it is in one's right to report, it is also of the ethics of the journalism to report accurately. One should not twist information so as to attract a large readership regardless of who or what is being reported.
