The Coalition of Unemployed Private Nurses (COUPN) has served notice of a demonstration on Monday, 7 May 2018.
The group is opposing attempts by government to enrol it members into the Heal Ghana module of the Nation Builders Corps (NaBCO) initiative with a monthly salary of GHS 700.
“We will like to make it clear to members that the paraphernalia clearly indicates that NaBCO trainees will receive training to be able to practice, which is an indication that it is not ideally meant for nurses and other health professionals but rather a calculated attempt to migrate health professionals onto this scheme in the quest for cheap labour,” President of COUPN, Fredrick Baah, noted in a statement on Tuesday, 2 May 2018.
The demonstration will start at the Obra Spot at the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange and proceed through the principal streets of Accra and end at Accra Hearts of Oak Park.
Below is the full statement from COUPN:

PROFESSIONAL HEALTH PERSONNELS TO DEMONSTRATE
The National Executive Council of the COALITION OF UNEMPLOYED PRIVATE NURSES (COUPN) wish to bring to the notice of its members that, no one should be worried about the launching of NABCO and asking as to who is qualified and who is not qualified to apply.
We will like to make it clear to members that the paraphernalia clearly indicates that NABCO trainees” will receive training to be able to practice, which is an indication that it is not ideally meant for nurses and other health professionals but rather a calculated attempt to migrate health professionals onto this scheme in quest for cheap labour.
Please the key issue here is SAY NO TO NABCO (Heal Ghana) and desist from visiting the website as it is a source of temptation and rather focus on availing yourself for the demonstration on Monday 7th May, 2018.

Yare y3 ya. Wat os gud r d goose os equally gud for ..... U remeber single spine? How can two ppl wit d same certificate nd in d same profession b recieving different salaries. Pls university nd polytechniq ppl dont jealolus d nurse cos wen u r on ur sick bed she wipes ur ***barred word*** and bath u, i dont anyone doles dat at d bank. Dey hv to run shoft cos dey dont enjoy holidays nd a light weight nurse needs to rest after lifting mr nd mrs obese. So please dont envy dem at all and show some respect cos wen u r sick u cry and behave like a baby,u kno wat i mean? Yes yes exactly. If u gv never been SICK before, ask someone who have.
Some time back in this country, so-called professional nurses were going to Europe to work. The chance has come again. So our over-pampered professional nurses should be left to find their own jobs in this country. Various degree and diploma graduates find their own jobs, why can't these nurses do the same? They have to attend serious selection interviews like several others to secure employment. I think NaBCo is supposed to be voluntary. I am a a loss why people should demonstrate about something that is voluntary. Or thsi nurses association give their members monthly allowance that is higher than GHc700 to sustain them till they get permanent jobs?
The admission into nursing programs in Ghana is too easy and not competitive. There should be less nursing schools, and the number accepted into nursing schools should be small like in Europe, and America.
U guys choose allowance over building of CHPS compound that will employ u.
Nana stop speaking immature, it wouldn't help. Trained with tax payer's money, fine, now serve the same people you're complaining the money isn't much, what is the sense in that. Tell us. Some graduates take 300 cedis for a start even as FIRST CLASS STUDENTS FROM THE UNIVERSITY. Are they not better of than those nurses? Which certificate in Ghana is a diploma or certificate nursing better than, tell us. It's just that as a nation we have pampered these lazy people who dont know anything for far too long. They even run shifts at work, ***barred word***, and they want to be paid how much, for working from 8 am to 2 pm. They should spare us their ***barred word*** professional certificate. If they're better of than any of the university or polytechnic students, let them come out to tell us. Lazy and ignoble professional.
HOW MANY HOSPITALS DO WE HAVE IN GHANA? IS NURSING THE ONLY PROFESSION IN GHANA? IT IS HIGH TIME THAT PEOPLE MUST THINK AHEAD OF TIME AND WHAT COURSE TO DO. HOW MANY NURSES DID THE NDC EMPLOY WHEN THEY WERE IN POWER? WE MUST CALL SPADE A SPADE, WE ARE TIRED OF THIS F00UISH NO1SE.

per your argument, why then should government not add the difference to the ghc 700 AND SIMPLY EMPLOY THEM. if a posted nurse takes ghc 980, and the NABCO employees are to take ghc 700, where then lies our priority as a country - creating new employment overlaps whereas we leave those we have trained with tax payers money to wither away. i think we should look into our professional training programs again. don't forget we have contract we these people - that government will employ them when they complete their courses. if we are no longer able to do this, lets change the policy and the terms and so whoever enrolls in any of these professional programs will know that he/she will look for his/her own job, just like any other graduates from other tertiary institutions. we are just trying to claim popularity by creating a window of argument that we have created jobs, meanwhile there are people with their valid certificates that we are not able to employ. more so some of these models just create avenues for political appendages rather than being "national" employment avenues.
These people must be left to keep waiting for their financial clearance. After all they saw some colleagues wait from 2015 till 2017, Who cares. I think they have been pampered for far too long.
I think its high time we stop entertaining these lazy nurses in Ghana. They go for 3 years training and want to take 1000 plus, ***barred word***. What of those with HND AND DEGREE, are you better than them. You guys are far below them. Stop disturbing us with this professional professional thing. A posted nurse, after all taxes subtracted takes home around 980 cedis. You're not yet posted and government wants to keep you busy by paying you a non-taxable allowance of 700 cedis and you're complaining. All the know is to organise demonstrations and treat malaria, what again is their use in the country. Mention calciferol and they'll ask what disease is that, yet a drug. BLOCKHEADS, they know nothing, even common names, a lot of them can't spell correctly. Lucky for them some of us are not the leaders of the country, like they'll STAY HOME FOREVER
