Two officials from the Saboba District Assembly have been killed in a road accident on the Tamale-Yendi road in the Northern Region.
They are the District Coordinating Director, Zakariah Abdulai and Internal Auditor, Bakari Gan who were traveling from Tamale to Saboba on an official duty.
The pick-up vehicle they were travelling with reportedly collided with an oncoming vehicle.
The accident happened on Monday afternoon [August 14].
Confirming the incident to Graphic Online's Mohammed Fugu, the District Chief Executive, George Bingrini said the bodies of the deceased have been transported to their hometowns in Damongo and Bole for burial in line with Islamic custom
The Coordinating Director was recently transferred from Tatale to the Saboba District.

Rather unfortunate. From every indication either the coordinating director or the internal auditor was driving the assembly's vehicle since no mention is made of the driver. Some assembly's do not have enough drivers compelling officers to drive themselves. Most of today's vehicles are easy to drive but one still needs to be a professional driver to drive long distances but most at times government officials see driving as very easy but it's not that easy. My plea to government officials is for them to use their drivers when traveling long distances since they are purposely employed to drive. Assembly's and other government departments that have genuine concerns for lack of drivers should be allowed to employ drivers. We have district assemblies in these country with 5 or more vehicles with only two drivers. You can't continue to give district assembly's new vehicles ( some are project vehicles ) without thinking of who will drive them. In some places we have departments whose vehicles are grounded with their drivers idling and taking salary. Such drivers should be used by the assembly's , whether health, education, agric, NBSSI, national service etc, use them. May the souls of the deceased rest in peace. This is not good news at all.
