Public Relations Officer for the Electoral Commission (EC), Sylvia Annor has underscored the need for all stakeholders and the general public to play an effective role in ensuring that law and order prevail in the second phase of the on-going biometric registration exercise.
She said, we all need to play our role effectively. It is not only the Police, we also have to play our roles because the general public have a role to play in making sure that there is law and order by reporting suspicious people trying to create problems
Speaking with Abena Asiedua Tenkorang on the Big Bite Morning Show on Xfm95.1, Mrs. Sylvia Annor said, the onus cannot lie only on the Police Service but we are all involved
When asked if the E.C is satisfied with the security situation prevailing in the on-going biometric registration exercise, she indicated that, I cannot make a general statement to that but what I am saying is that, they (Police) have promised that they were going to deal with any unpleasant situation emanating from the registration
..Let us remember that ours is to conduct and register people in the electoral process but when it comes to security, we can only advice that this is what the law stipulates. Therefore if there is a problem, then the Police will come in, in terms of violence and other things...
According to her the Electoral Commission has met the Police top hierarchy on security issues and they have given the assurance that they were going to deal with any unpleasant situations in terms of violence and its related problems.
So we believe that if we have problems the police will come in and help she added.
Commenting on how the E.C is going to deal with the registration of inmates at Prisons all over the country, Mrs. Annor revealed that, the issue will be dealt with during the third phase of the registration exercise adding that only qualified inmates will be registered
